Education has transformed my life. Growing up in poverty and changing schools more than ten times, I could have easily become a statistic. Instead, I am completing my Doctorate in Education and School Leadership and I have been able to give back to my community as a teacher and school administrator. I am running for the Tempe Elementary School Board because I want to continue to raise the standard of education, meet the needs of the community and ensure all students have the opportunity to reach their full potential.
As a teacher, I was fortunate to work with students across all grade levels and abilities. Working as a special educator, my students faced tremendous challenges at school and at home. I chose to become a teacher because I wanted to help students who grew up in similar circumstances as me. Despite growing up in an adverse environment, I became the first in my household to graduate from high school. Later, I graduated summa cum laude from Arizona State University with a Bachelor of Arts and Masters of Education.
Education has provided me many opportunities that I would like all students to have access to. Such a goal can only be achieved through collaborative efforts from parents, educators, and our community leaders. Therefore, we must work together to ensure that all of our students are equipped with the necessary tools to be the future commercial and civic leaders of this city that we love so much.
I commit to fight for Arizona’s kids every day and to achieve excellence in our schools. I ask for your support, your voice and your vote on November 3rd for Tempe Elementary School Board.
